Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement announcing economic sanctions and travel bans against 14 individuals:

“Russia’s illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine and provocative military activity remains a serious concern to Canada and the international community.

“Today, we are announcing economic sanctions and travel bans against 14 additional individuals who have taken violent action aimed at undermining Ukrainian sovereignty and violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

“Canada supports President Petro Poroshenko’s peace plan and we will continue to apply pressure against Russia with our allies and partners. We continue to closely monitor the situation and we are ready for further actions if necessary.”
