On 12 December 2012 an investment forum “Investment potential of Ukraine” was held in Kansai area, in the city of Osaka. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Embassy of Ukraine in Japan with the support of Japan External Trade Organization “JETRO”, Business Federation of Kansai area “Kankeiren” and Mayor of Osaka. //
The Ukrainian delegation composed of the representatives of the Ukrainian public agencies in charge of investment policy, leaders of big industrial regions – Dnipropetrovks, Donetsk, Zaporizhya and Crimea) as well as the Ukrainian companies took part in the Forum.
Representatives of more than 40 Japanese companies, Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and public entities took part in the Forum.
Welcoming remarks at the official opening of the Forum were delivered by H.E. Mykola Kulinich, Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan, Mr. Oleksandr Pinskyi, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Mr. Atsushi Suzuki, Head of JETRO Osaka office, Mr. Hakuo Yanagisawa, Head of Japan-Ukraine Economic Council, Mr. Takashi Matsutani, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Kansai area.
During the Forum the Japanese audience was informed about the economic, scientific, technological and tourist potential of Ukraine and its regions, about investment climate and major economic developments in Ukraine.
Speakers form the official agencies of Ukraine made the following presentations:
- Ukraine investment opportunities - system "One-Stop-Shop",
- Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation in the framework of the Kyoto Protocol and the prospects of its development,
- Investment attraction of enterprise activity in Ukraine in the sphere of energy efficiency, energy saving and renewable energy recourses,
- Public-private partnership: an effective mechanism for attracting long-term investments to the economy of Ukraine.
Representatives of the Ukrainian regions presented regional authorities’ initiatives in order to attract investments it the regional development.
The Japanese side highly appraised the investment potential of Ukraine and expressed desire to develop trade, economic and investment cooperation with Ukraine. Conclusion of an Agreement on Liberalization, Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments between Ukraine and Japan, which is elaborated now by the experts of both sides, should give necessary impetus to such cooperation.
