On November 17, 2012 the annual meeting of the Association of Ukrainian Studies was held at the Waseda University headed by new Association President Ms. Megumi Suezawa, Professor at the Heisei International University. Professors and students of prominent Japanese Universities and educational Institutions as well as members of the Japanese and international community interested in the culture, history and current events of Ukraine attended the meeting.

In the frame of the meeting a mini-symposium on "Teaching the Ukrainian language in Japan" was held. Some reports of professors from Japanese Universities who teach Ukrainian as a foreign language, as well as representatives of Universities that have agreements with Ukrainian partner Universities for student exchange were made. The lecture on "Policy of the Government of Ukraine to support of the teaching the Ukrainian language abroad” was delivered by the representative of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan.
The reports caused a lively discussion among the meeting participants.
