On November 14, 2012 in Tokyo, the Fourth joint meeting of the Coordination Council on economic cooperation with Japanat the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine and the Committee for Economic Cooperation with Ukraine Japan Business Federation "Keidanren" took place.
Ukrainian delegation, consisting of representatives from the public and private sectors of Ukraine, was headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Petro Poroshenko.
In his address beforethe participants of the meeting Mr. P.Poroshenko statedthat Japan remains an important trade partner of Ukraineand a leading global investor and lender.
Minister informed the participants of the forum about the economic development of Ukraine, its production and export potential, as well as current foreign policy priorities of Ukraine, including Ukraine's participation in FTA of the CIS and the course of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement with the EU.
Mr. Poroshenko emphasized on the need to enhance the program of improvementof business and investmentclimate in Ukraine. In this regard, he informed that the working out of the agreement with the Japanese side onthe Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments between Ukraine and Japan is coming to an end. Minister said that the Ukrainian side is ready to sign it in the near future. Poroshenko said that this agreement will provide an important signal to the business communities of both sides and will enhance investment cooperation between the two countries.
Members of the Ukrainian-Japanese Economic Forum discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation in energy and mineral resources, iron and steel, chemicals and engineering, agriculture and food industry, modernization of transport infrastructure and tourism.
During the meeting the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Poroshenko and Chairman of the Committee for Economic Cooperation with Ukraine Japan Business Federation "Keidanren" Motoyuki Oka signed a Memorandum of the Fourth joint meeting of the Coordinating Council
