On September 26, 2012, the reception on the occasion of the 21-st Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine was held at the Tokyo hotel «New Otani». Among invitees there were Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the MOFA Mr. K. Hamada, Chairman of the Japan-Ukraine Parliamentarian Friendship Association Mr. E.Mori, representatives of the Parliament of Japan, the central authorities, the Imperial Household Agency, the diplomatic corps, as well as Ukrainians, who are temporarily residing in Japan.
The reception was opened by Peoples artist of Ukraine O. Stepanyuk sang the National anthem of Ukraine.
At thebeginning of the reception, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan M. Kulinichaddressed to guests and congratulated them with 21-st Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. He also stressed that in 20 years of Japanese-Ukrainian diplomatic relations considerable achievements in political, economic and cultural fields were reached.
In his speech the Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for providing ongoing assistance to Ukraine in minimizing the aftermath of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power station and continuous support for democratic reforms of the Ukrainian society. The Ambassador stated that the «difficult»Ukrainian experience in coping with the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster provides our country with the opportunity to assist Japan after the «Fukushima-1» accident.
Taking the opportunity Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Mr. K. Hamada thanked to the Ambassador for his contribution to develop friendly relations between two nations. Thus, he underlined that Ambassador had made huge efforts in process of collaboration through Chernobyl - Fukushima, as well as promoting Ukrainian original culture among the Japanese people.
