At the beginning of the audience Ambassador M.Kulinich on behalf of the Government of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Emperor of Japan Akihito and all the imperial family for their continued support of Ukraine, particularly in the matter of overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.
During the audience Emperor of Japan Akihito and Ambassador M.Kulinich discussed the current state of Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and accidents at nuclear power plants. In this regard, Emperor of Japan Akihito expressed gratitude to the people and Government of Ukraine for assistance in overcoming the consequences of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at the nuclear power plant «Fukushima-1». He also stressed the need to strengthen joint efforts both at expert level and at non-governmental organizations level to exchange experience in the sphere of radiation protection and decontamination of affected areas. The experience of Hiroshima and Chernobyl, in this context, according to Emperor of Japan Akihito, is significant.
During the audience His Imperial Majesty asked Ambassador M.Kulinich to convey his sincere personal greetings and wishes of further successes in state activity to President of Ukraine V.Yanukovych.
At the end of the audience Emperor of Japan Akihito thanked Ambassador M.Kulinich for his important contribution to the development of the Japanese-Ukrainian relations.
