On September 10, an official reception was held to mark the 28th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence.
In his speech, Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Dr. Ihor Kharchenko expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan and all the Japanese partners of Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the international coalition for the establishment of international peace and security, and also welcomed the cultural and humanitarian exchanges between the two countries before the Tokyo Olympics.
Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Kendji Yamada, in his opening address, reiterated Japan's position regarding continued support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of developing cooperation in economic, scientific and technical fields.
Eisuke Mori, Chairman of the Japan-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship League, praised the efforts of the Ukrainian people to rebuild the country after the disaster that came to Ukraine in 2014 and expressed hope for the establishment of peace in Ukraine under the leadership of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
There was also held award ceremony of Kyoto Ballet School Director Ms. Michiko Takao who was honored with the award from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Ukraine for her fruitful work in the field of culture.
Besides, during the reception the guests had a chance to see Japanese kimono with Ukrainian motifs created last year in the framework of the One World Kimono Project.
Anthems of Ukraine and Japan were performed by Ukrainian opera singer Oksana Stepanyuk and Japanese tenor Masafumi Akikawa.
