On 27 June 2012 Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Mykola Kulinich met with newly appointed President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka.
Ambassador of Ukraine congratulated JICA President with the new appointment.
The Sides noted with appreciation that cooperation between Ukraine and JICA marks its 15th anniversary in the current year. Since 1997 Ukraine has been receiving technical assistance from the Government of Japan through Official Development Assistance program (ODA), which is supervised by Japan International Cooperation Agency. Ever since Ukraine has received more than 150 millions US dollars in assistance.
Present and future projects, which are implemented by JICA through ODA in Ukraine, were discussed during the meeting. Ambassador of Ukraine expressed gratitude for JICA grants provided for support of cultural initiatives in Ukraine, in the sphere of education, public health, economic and administrative reforms.
The Sides, particularly, welcomed inauguration of the new passenger terminal D in the international airport “Boryspil” on May 28, 2012, built under the financial support of JICA.
Ambassador of Ukraine expressed hope that the next big project under ODA loan will be construction of Mykolaiv Bridge in Ukraine, which should be an important part of the Eurasian transport corridor passing through the road M-14.
The project of modernization of rolling stock of Kyiv subway under JICA credit was also discussed during the meeting.
Summing up the meeting Ambassador of Ukraine Mykola Kulinich and President of JICA Akihiko Tanaka agreed to maintain close cooperation in implementation in Ukraine of the projects of social and economic importance under JICA assistance.
