On June 4, 2011, a charity concert of the famous Ukrainian singer and bandura player, Oksana Stepanyuk, who won many international musical contests and has performed at many concerts in Japan for a long time, was held at Parthenon Tama Hall, Tokyo. Collected money from the concert will be directed to support people in Japan affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami on March, 11.
During the concert, tickets for which were sold out completely, there have been presented not only Ukrainian and international classic music but Japanese songs as well. As an encore the singer performed the famous song "Batkivshchyna" (Motherland) together with the audience.
The audience perceived the performance very warmly which indicates that Ukraine and Japan are close in spirit and that both nations not only feel the crisis at the nuclear power plants very deeply, but also appreciate art.
Thanks to the charity concert more than 700 thousand yen were collected to help the disaster Tohoku area.
After the performance, the singer gave an interview to the most popular newspaper in Japan «The Yomiuri Shimbun».
