On the 2nd of March, 2012 the Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Mykola Kulinich met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Japan Takahiro Yokomichi. The main theme of the meeting was the preparation for the visit of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn to Japan (7-11 March, 2012).
At the beginning of the meeting on behalf of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn the Ambassador of Ukraine Mykola Kulinich presented a congratulatory letter to Takahiro Yokomichi on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Japan.
During the meeting the issues of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations were discussed. In this regard the both sides stressed on the importance of the forthcoming visit of the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn to Japan which will be held on March 7-11, 2012. The both sides also stressed the important role of the Parliamentary Association of Friendship «Japan-Ukraine» for the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation.
During the meeting Ambassador and Speaker also exchanged views on prospects of cooperation between Japan and Ukraine in the sphere of elimination of the consequences of the nuclear power plants accidents.
At the end of the meeting the Ambassador of Ukraine Mykola Kulinich presented to Takahiro Yokomichi the recently published joint research conducted by the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and the University of Nagasaki on the impact of radiation, released after the Chernobyl accident, on the environment and human health.
