On October 9, 2011 Mykola Kulinich, Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan, took part at the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Ukraine – Japan: the Facet of the World” by the Ukrainian photo artist Halyna Shevtsova. The exhibition opened at the Soka University – one of the most prominent educational institutions in Tokyo. In his opening remarks, the University Presidetnt Mr. Hideo Yamamoto stated that Ukraine is a unique country which gave birth to numerous talented people who became the classicists of the world literature and arts and who are now well known all over the world.
In return Ambassador in his greeting said that both Ukraine and Japan have an ancient history and rich culture and that despite the distance that lays between our countries our two peoples are very alike with their strong spirit, respect for nature and love to arts.
The photos which demonstrate the spiritual affinity of both Ukrainian and Japanese people, similarity of traditional rituals and principles of the wooden architecture as well as resemblance of local landscapes, attracted a significant interest of those present at the opening ceremony.»
