On February 2-6, 2012 First DeputyHead of State AgencyofUkraine forExclusion ZoneManagement Mr. Dmytro Bobro andPrincipal Expert of Environment and Technogenic Safety Department of National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of UkraineMr. Oleg Nasvit were visiting Japan at the invitation of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan and International Science and Technology Center/Science and Technology Center in Ukraine.
During the visit, Ukrainian specialists attended the Symposium “The Experience and Technology of Russia, Ukraine, and Other CIS Countries on Remediation and Restoration of Environments”, met with deputy Director of Support Team for Residents Affected by Nuclear Incidents, Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters, Cabinet Office Government of Japan Mr. Takeda Shinjiro and gave an interview to Associated Press's journalist.
The Symposium mainly focused on the Stakeholder’s issue on remediation and restoration of environments, based on the experience of those who have made efforts for recovery after theChernobylaccident in order to make technical contribution to the efforts inJapanto cope with the aftermath of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident.
Ukrainian experts made the presentations on the medical and agricultural aspects of rehabilitation of contaminated territories and radiation protection, social issues, using the experience of NGOs after theChernobyldisaster, solving economic problems of the recovering of the affected region etc.
Journalist of Associated Press asked the most disturbing questions for Japanese about consequences of the largest man-made disaster occurred 25 years ago in Ukraine, the impact of radiation on the affected people and their treatment, policy of state regarding the evacuated population and liquidators, measures and experience that could help the Japanese to overcome the Fukushima crisis by using Ukraine's advanced and reliable technologies
