On the 20th of September 2016, in the course of the working visit to the United States, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzō Abe.
Petro Poroshenko thanked the Japanese Prime Minister for the firm stance of Japan regarding the support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, inter alia, in the framework of the presidency in G7.
The parties discussed the implementation of the agreements achieved in the course of the official visit of the Ukrainian President to Japan in April 2016. They noted the importance of speeding up the joint work on the determination of large-scale projects in Ukraine in the sphere of energy security, infrastructure and ecology for the involvement of Japanese companies and investors.
Petro Poroshenko and Shinzō Abe paid attention to the preparations to the holding of the Year of Japan in Ukraine in 2017.
The parties agreed to consider the possibility of further visa liberalization for Ukrainian citizens.
The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Japan also shared views on certain issues of bilateral interaction within the UN Security Council. Petro Poroshenko and Shinzo Abe discussed global security problems and condemned nuclear tests carried out by North Korea.
