The legislative act amends the Law of Ukraine “On the Fundamentals of Ukraine’s National Security.”
Particularly, amendments to article 6 “Priorities of national interests” provide that “priorities of national interests are as follows:
Ukraine’s integration into European political, economic and legal framework aiming to acquire membership in the European Union, and integration into the Euro-Atlantic security space; as well as development of equal and mutually beneficial relations with other international countries in the interests of Ukraine.”
The law amends also article 8 “Main directions of state policy on matters of national security” under which, “main directions of state policy on matters of Ukraine’s national security are as follows:
in the foreign political sphere – carrying out active international policy on the part of Ukraine with an aim to:
deepen cooperation with the North-Atlantic Treaty Organization in order to reach criteria necessary for acquiring membership within this organization.”
The document amends also the Law of Ukraine “On Fundamentals of Internal and Foreign Policy”. Particularly, it is stipulated to amend article 11 “Fundamentals of foreign policy”, under which “Ukraine as the European state carries out open foreign policy and strives for equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all the interested partners, primarily proceeding from the necessity of guaranteeing safety, sovereignty and protection of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
The law establishes that “key principles of foreign policy are as follows:
deepening cooperation with the North-Atlantic Treaty Organization in order to reach criteria necessary for acquiring membership within this organization.”
The law was adopted by 303 people’s deputies.
The bill was registered under No. 1014-3.
