The sides discussed the whole range of issues pertaining to the Ukrainian-Japanese relations as well as current international affairs. The talks focused on the situation in Ukraine as the result of Russian aggression.
The sides reaffirmed their shared position on the inadmissibility of changing borders and violating territorial integrity by force or coercion. This understanding is the basis of common position of G-7 states and of the broader international community. It was agreed that the threats to sovereignty of Ukraine from Russia is a great challenge to the international community that needs a consolidated, firm and decisive response. The Ukrainian and the Japanese delegations agreed to strengthen appropriate cooperation in the international arena along with other partners.
The Ukrainian and the Japanese delegations agreed to deepen their dialogue and cooperation in the United Nations in order to address the pressing issues on the international agenda.
The sides confirmed the importance of intensifying political dialogue between Ukraine and Japan, in particular following the presidential elections in Ukraine.
The Japanese side welcomed conclusion of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement which should open up significant prospects for deepening cooperation with Ukraine, particularly in trade and economic sphere. Conclusion of the Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments between Ukraine and Japan should provide an important impetus to this cooperation.
The Japanese side expressed its readiness to provide necessary assistance to stabilize the political and economic situation in Ukraine and to strengthen democracy, which is the key to a successful and sustainable development of Ukraine.
