Before leaving Japan in The Hague, Abe told reporters: "I will clarify Japan's position that we cannot accept the change of status quo through force and we will support Ukraine in cooperation with the international community"
"I will closely work with other G-7 nations (over the Ukraine issue), while communicating with Russia."
Abe is scheduled to take part in a meeting of leaders of the Group of Seven major nations in The Hague, at which they will discuss how they should support Ukraine following Russia's annexation of Crimea.
Japanese government sources said Abe would announce during the G-7 meeting that Japan is to provide around 100 billion yen in economic assistance to Ukraine in cooperation with other countries and the International Monetary Fund.
