Republic of the Philippines has recognized the independence of Ukraine on 22 of January, 1992. The diplomatic relations were established on 7 of April, 1992.
Since April, 1992 until June, 1993 the interstate relations were carried out through the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Poland, after that period – through the Filipino Embassy in Moscow. On 4 of June, 2003the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines in Russian Federation and Ukraine E.Lyamas was appointed. Until December, 2004 the Ukrainian Side maintained the bilateral relations through its Embassies in Indonesia, Vietnam and starting from December, 2004, after the appointment of Y. Kostenko as Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of the Philippines resident in Tokyo, through the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan.
On 17 of January, 2008 the solemn ceremony of presenting the credentials by Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan and the Republic of the Philippines M. Kulinich to the President of the Republic of the Philippines G. Macapagal-Arroyo has took place.
Since November, 1997 Oscar de Venecia was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Ukraine to the Republic of the Philippines(since 2001 – Honorary General Consul).
Since 20 of May, 1998 V. Kovalenko was appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of the Philippines in Ukraine.
