Commemoration of the 85th anniversary of Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Japan
On November 19 this year the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan held in Japan commemorative events related to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933.
The Church of St. Alban in Tokyo hosted the Memorial Service of the St.Jude Mission of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor which was attended by members of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan, Ukrainians living in Japan, as well as our faithful Japanese friends
The clergy of the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches in Japan also came to pray for the souls of millions of Ukrainians tortured to death by the totalitarian Soviet regime.
In the framework of this commemorative event a joint prayer-requiem for victims of the Holodomor was held. After that the Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Mr. Ihor Kharchenko addressed the audience, noting that today the war against Ukraine continues, but now Ukrainians have a strong state and reliable partners, so they will surely win.
After the memorial service, a traditional act of reproduction of the Ukrainian national emblem took place in the heart of the capital of Japan. Ukrainian community in Japan “Krayany” and all those who were present lit more than 100 candles and put them in the shape of Trident which symbolizes the strength and invincibility of Ukrainian people as well as the belief that Ukraine will be able to overcome all the difficulties on its way.
